Across the coffee sector, many coffee producers and their families live well below recognized “living income” benchmarks. I was asked early 2019 by IDH to lead The Task Force for Coffee Living Income (TCLI) that started mid 2019 to answer a pivotal question: What are effective sourcing and pricing practices that coffee companies can adopt to help close the living income gap?
In a series of workshops, starting with the global procurement team and later extended to the global leadership team, we created a shared understanding of the state of the art insights on sustainability and CSR and identified critical challenges and opportunities most relevant for Ammeraal Beltech. We mapped these against running activities and policies and prioritized the gaps in relation to the overall strategic priorities of the company and the competitive environment.
Private sector interventions to make supply chains more sustainable have grown dramatically over the past two decades. Certification has become a widely used tool for driving sustainable practices in a multitude of sectors.
